THE PINEAPPLE STORY
The pineapple is known as a world-wide symbol for hospitality. The legend of the pineapple began with the sea captains of New England who sailed to the Caribbean islands and returned to the colonies with exotic fruits and spices.
When the ships safely returned to port, their families would joyously greet the captain and crew and then spear a precious pineapple on top of their iron gateposts to invite friends and neighbors in to visit, share their food, and listen to the tales of voyage and adventure.
Over time, colonial innkeepers added ornately carved pictures of pineapples to their signs and bedposts. The tradition continues and to this day hotels and service industries proudly display and use the pineapple as a symbol of hospitality.
